Often referred to as the Holstein of dairy goats because of its superior milk production, the Saanen is the largest of the dairy goat breeds and the most popular worldwide. A mature doe weighs 135 pounds or more; a mature buck weighs 170 pounds or more. The Saanen is a Swiss breed and animals are white to light cream in color with an extremely mild temperament. They are also very adaptable and can do well in almost any environment. The Saanen holds the world record for milk production with over 6600 lbs in 305 days.
